close call in boulder

I had a big business dinner tonight and one of the guys remembered my drinking days. He kept egging me on to have a drink. I said that I didn't want anything and plus I don't drink. He kept it going most of the night. He was drunk and in disbelief that I didn't drink. I wish that it would have ended earlier. This is the worse postion I have been cornered into in the three years of sobriety. It made sense to drink something to show him and the other guys that I could drink. The reality is that I can't drink ever again or at least for today. .

Obviously, you did the right thing in the face of temptation. I think it may only be your pride that makes you want to "show them you can drink."
Hopefully, they don't base their "friends" on their drinking abilities. If they do, then maybe ...

Egging someone on who says no is a serenity ruiner for me. I would have to get up and excuse myself for a bathroom break. The HP must have put that AH there for a reason. Glad that you had your program and could look at this person and see what fools alcohol makes of others.

Sometimes people just don't get it, do they? I'm sorry you had to go through that, but I'm glad you stayed sober. I'm pretty open about my alcoholism and most people I run into are supportive. But when I run into someone like that just won't stop bugging me, I just tell them I have an ulcer and let it go at that. Apparently, that's more believable. Whatever.

Obviously that guy had a drinking problem of his own. Anyone who can't stand to see someone not drink has issues.

It amazes me still to this day the level of ignorance and arogance some people have over drinking.
It is almost like deep down they are "intimidated" by sober people.
Good for you for standing your grounds..You don't need to prove anything to any but yourself. And it sounds like you did :)
